Collier Cottage Project- Part II: Living Room & Home Office

Hello, friends! Welcome back! If you’ve landed here and haven’t read / watched Part I of this project that revealed the Kitchen and Primary Bedroom spaces, I highly recommend you check that out HERE first. If you’re all caught up… perfect! Let’s dive into the next two spaces in this project. The Living Room and Home Office. Oh, and one more thing, join me and my IG friends and follow me HERE. we have a good time over there!

Living Room- Before

Much like the other spaces, the living room wasn’t hoooorrible, but it was a bit dated, lacked character, and ultimately wasn’t my client’s style. The carpet definitely had to GO, and we tinkered with the idea of renovating the fireplace… she’s a biggie, right?! SPOILER ALERT we didn’t renovate it, as I think it eventually grew on us, but she may be painted later down the road. One of the things my client made clear is that she wanted me to bring the “culture” in the living room, especially since this is the first space you see upon entering the house. “Say no more,” I thought to myself… I can do CULTURE!

Living Room- Mood Board

Here is the Mood Board for the space. Cultural elements are considered while keeping the space balanced. Since I incorporated the color black in the kitchen and blue in the dining room (which you’ll see later), I wanted to marry both of those colors in the living room along with some bolder pops of color through the artwork.

Outside of the flooring (which was updated throughout the entire home) most of the updates were to the furniture and decor. My client even tackled a simple DIY for the face of the fireplace. She simply spray-painted the brass areas black.

I designed and created a custom coffee table that wouldn’t “get in the way.” A round low-profile table allowed for good circulation in the space and made the new modular sectional look good! The texture and the color of the coffee table enhanced the piece as well. You may or may not know this, but I create either a custom piece of art or furniture for each of my full-service design clients. It’s my love language, it shows my token of appreciation, and it’s a tangible piece of me that’s left behind.

Home Office

I love it when clients trust me so much that they give me carte blanche in a space… and that is EXACTLY what my client did!! With a few self-imposed parameters in place, I decided that I would be completing the heavy lifting in this space.

I love it when clients trust me so much that they give me carte blanche in a space… and that is EXACTLY what my client did!! With a few self-imposed parameters in place, I decided that I would be completing the heavy lifting in this space. In the video below you will see snippets of everything from me removing the closet doors, track, shelving, and rod, to designing, measuring, cutting, and installing wall panel moulding, to painting the ENITRE space. Everything you see done in this space (besides installing the light fixture) was completed by yours truly! Now, typically I do not take on this level of work for my full-service interior projects, that’s what my wonderful contractors are for, but this was the perfect opportunity for me to keep my skills sharp and to truly execute my vision. If you’re here from my IG community, you more than likely saw me tacking this home office in my stories.

Home Office- The Details

My client is retired and living her best life, so I not only wanted this office to look good, but I wanted her to FEEL GOOD in the space. The design also allows for some flexibility if she needs more storage, etc. The floor lamp is sleek and dimmable with a simple touch and hold. So, how did I make this space look and feel so much larger you ask? I enveloped it in the color Moss Rose by Sherwin Williams. Also removing the closet doors and wallpapering the wall in there made it feel like a separate yet cohesive part of the space.

Alrighty! That’s it for the Living Room and Home Office, friends! As usual, I would love your feedback, comments, likes and shares! Stay tuned for the reveal of the final space… the Dining Room. If you were paying attention, you could part of this space in some of the living room shots. But, I promise, I’ve saved the best for last!
